Domus India 50, April 2016
The April 2016 of Domus India documents Rajesh Vora’s recent exhibition of photographs of houses in Punjab that have various object-monuments as adornments for rooftops – as trophies that animate the otherwise nondescript skyline.
We also feature an essay on the recent Rent Control Act amendments and how a cultural reading of architecture can help in dealing with a pragmatic and political question that affects hordes of communities across Mumbai, as well as Charles Correa Gold Medal-winning essay on an appropriate approach to the reuse and retrofitting of chawls across Mumbai. Further, we feature a house that sets a new benchmark for its determined use of reclaimed and conserved components. And lastly, another house that responds well to the lack of space in Indian cities while interacting with the outside world as much as possible.
