This issue of Domus, México, América Central y el Caribe includes projects from around the world, and particularly from the region, that connect indoors and outdoors in a magnificent way.
The Río Perdido, winner of the XII Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura: “Arquitectura para todos” of Costa Rica, is located in the exuberant nature setting of Costa Rica’s forest. The different spaces open towards the landscape. And the design by Estudio C2 Arquitectura includes landscaping as a key element.
Built after decades of its creator’s death, the great American architect Louis Kahn, the beautiful Memorial Roosevelt takes over the site and highlights the interaction between the river and the Big Apple.
Another great architect, the Argentinean Amancio Williams, author of the Casa Sobre el Arroyo, a classic work of Latin American architecture, is also featured in this issue through two different opinions analyzing the original work and its current status.
In Mexico, we found the project Arquitectura del Territorio, which completely transforms an almost-rendered-useless terrace by means of a full, smart landscaping design.
Colón’s port, in Panama, deserved an urbanism and landscape solution as the one done by Herreros. This Spaniard firm, along with local colleagues, carried out a texture and color study in order to restore the system of plazas along the access road to the city. The cobblestone work and the fittings highlight the identity of the place.
The issue closes with a magnificent residence in Portugal, house of Swiss architect Valerio Olgiati, which immerses itself in the natural surroundings with expressive energy and skill.
