The house designed by Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota in the countryside outside Parma aims to break down the boundaries between natural and artificial. The Greenary, a fusion of green and granary, is a former farmhouse transformed into a light-filled residence for tomato company Mutti’s CEO.  Developed around a 10-metre tree, the house is characterised by a fusion of original features (the exposed perforated bricks, which form an evocative pattern of light and shadow, are one example) and contemporary additions. A three-storey volume, serving as living area, is characterised by a fully glazed facade and a pitched ceiling, as well as visually interconnected multi-level spaces.  This ambience, fulcrum of the project, is also distinguished by the presence of a corten metal staircase that invites one to the intermediate floors, from which the landscape can be observed. A work area has been installed in the old barn, complemented by an elastic ceiling grid, where people can sit.
