Wallpaper Handmade X: designers and artisans come together at the Salone dei Tessuti in via San Gregorio

Wallpaper Handmade is celebrating its tenth anniversary with an exhibition dedicated to love in all its forms.

To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Wallpaper Handmade has asked designers, artists and artisans to work together to interpret the theme of love in all its various forms. The exhibition, which has been set up in a hall built at the end of the 1920s for the exhibiting of fabrics, hosts important names from the design world and promises newcomers, both Italian and international, alongside the most famous companies in the artisan sector.
Danish designer Kasper Kjeldgaard and Fritz Hansen interpret the theme of love with the Centres of rotation lamp, composed of two lighting elements suspended from the ceiling, both different yet closely related, made of beeswax and brass. Paul Smith and Mercian have made a tandem, designed for trips for the London-based designer and his wife Pauline, while the firm German Ermičs has designed the Harmony Machine for Bang & Olufsen, an innovative speaker concept.

Love is interpreted in the most wide-ranging of ways: physical love, love for collections, a love of detail. Marine Julié, a French artist, designs miniature love scenes on crystal vases with simple lines made by the glass company Rückl, while the duo Lanzavecchia + Wai present luggage for the collector, an expandable accordion-style bag made by Globe-Trotter, an English company which produces luggage out of vulcanised fibreboard in a factory which still uses machinery from the Victorian era.

An interesting item is the Blushing bar, a circular bar in red oak which is the result of the collaboration between the design couple Zoe Chan and Merlin Eayts and Sebastian Cox, a company which is specialized in the working of precious woods. The bar structure includes ten work spaces, celebrating the ten years of Wallpaper, each dedicated to different moments in the preparation of cocktails, from the squeezing of citrus fruit to the addition of ice.
