Jacques Lévy: “How can I inhabit a city in such a way that I don’t make it uninhabitable for the others?”

In this video from the inaugural Domusforum the geographer and urbanist discusses the power that cities assert on its citizens, and the active role they play in the space they inhabit.

Levy explores what is meant by urbanity – how it impacts mobility, openness to ideas of otherness, attitude to the home and political mindset.

Lévy explains: “A city is a box which puts much power on people who live inside the box… but the box has been shaped by the people who live inside them.”

domusforum is a new cultural platform launched by Editoriale Domus to look at the impact of architecture, design and technologies on the urban environment. The first event focussing on the future of the city took place at the Franco Parenti Theatre in Milan on 11 October 2018.

Among the speakers were Domus Editor in Chief Michele De Lucchi, Egyptian heritage advisor Fathi Saleh, and advocate for a politically and economically united Africa, Samia Nkrumah.
