A Montessori ladder to improve kids’ learning

La Taue by Ettomio is the result of an important design and prototyping study: it folds easily and allows the child to be independent in both his ascent and descent.

La Taue is a stepladder provided with protection that allows even a very small child to reach some difficult places of the house and reach the height of the adult world. According to Maria Montessori’s pedagogical theories, imitating parents in their daily housework helps the child to develop manual skills, creativity and improves his cognitive abilities and therefore his autonomy.

The teamwork of designer (and mother) Paola Bernardotto – founder of Italian brand Ettomio – and a carpenter has created a foldable ‘tower’ that – thanks to the single pivot on which the protective bar and legs rotate – has a minimum footprint of 20 cm when folded.

The careful study of details such as the height of the step, the shape of the protection bar and the slots that act as handholds at the base, allows the child to get on and off the tower very easily.
