After two years of design research on recycled plastic, Snøhetta presents S-1500, a dark-green chair featuring a carbon footprint which is one of the lowest in the market. Designed after Norwegian modernist Bendt Winge’s classic R-48 chair from the late sixties, it is made of 100% recycled plastic from the local fish farming industry in the North of Norway and a frame made from recycled steel. The chair is the result of a collaboration with furniture manufacturer Nordic Comfort Products (NCP). The material used for the recycling process comes from worn-out fish nets, ropes and pipes provided by local fishing-industry companuies to NCP. The waste components are processed and grinded into a granulate that can be injected into custom made frameworks.
