Wall Stories
A collection of wallpaper
and books from the Cooper-Hewitt's historic
collection, all designed for children.
The Cooper-Hewitt is the United
States’ principal design museum.
It is also the only one to have a
historical and contemporary collection
entirely dedicated to this
subject: over 250,000 objects (from
bronzes of ancient Chinese dynasties
to Philippe Starck ashtrays) plus
books, drawings, prints, fabrics and
wallpapers. It is a very special place
frequented by enthusiasts: designers
in search of inspiration, collectors
who want to extend their knowledge,
and students exploring the history of
design. This educational and popular
spirit animates the exhibitions at
the New York museum. For example,
“Wall Stories” is a collection of wallpaper
and books from the historic
collection, all designed for children.
This parade of children’s best-loved
characters (from Cinderella to Peter
Rabbit, Mickey Mouse and Peter
Pan) invites us on an unusual journey
through book design and wallpaper. E. S.
