With the measure of 18 January 2021, Italian museums, which had been forced to close for more than three months due to the pandemic, have been given a breather. They are reopening to the public, but with several restrictions: they are opening in the yellow belt regions and on weekdays only. It will also be a purely local audience, given the ban on travelling between regions except for reasons of necessity.

CAMERA – The Italian Centre for Photography in Turin reopens with the Paolo Ventura. Carousel’s exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini, until 28 February.
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto starts again with two modern and 17th-century masters: Giovanni Boldini. Pleasure curated by Beatrice Avanzi and Tiziano Panconi (until 5 April 2021) and Caravaggio. The Contemporary (until 18 April). Both exhibitions are conceived by Vittorio Sgarbi.
Until April 18, the Triennale di Milano hosts Enzo Mari curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist with Francesca Giacomelli, a great Italian designer’s retrospective. Until April 4, Mestieri d’Arte & Design. Crafts Culture, realised in collaboration with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte to shed light on the work of Milan’s craft workshops and manufacturers.
Another landmark of contemporary Milanese art is Pirelli HangarBicocca, which reopens with the exhibition Short-circuits by the Chinese artist Chen Zhen curated by Vicente Todolí (until 21 February), while the permanent The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015 by Anselm Kiefer is still available. Finally, scheduled from 17 February, Digital Mourning, the Parisian artist Neïl Beloufa’s solo exhibition, curated by Roberta Tenconi.
The Museum of Modern Art of Bologna (MAMbo) and the Morandi Museum are reopening with RE-COLLECTING, the cycle devised by the artistic director Lorenzo Balbi that explores themes related to the permanent collections. The new appointment takes place at the Morandi Museum and is entitled Morandi tells. Tone and composition in his last still-life creations curated by Giusi Vecchi, focusing on still life. Until 11 April 2021.
The 2020 Art Quadriennale FUORI (OUT) exhibition curated by Sarah Cosulich and Stefano Collicelli Cagol reopens at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni – until spring. A survey of the contemporary Italian scene through the works of 43 artists. Reservations required.
In the National Museum of 21st Century Arts you can enter at the reduced price of 5 euros. On show is senzamargine. Passages in Italian Art at the Turn of the Millennium, the new set-up of the collection with works by nine contemporary Italian art authors, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, is on until 10 October. The exhibition Giovanni Gastel. The People I like, extended until 21 February, and Isaac Julien. Lina Bo Bardi – A Marvellous Entanglement.
