Teatrum Botanicum in Turin. Tuning the schemes

“When the azaleas of the Deep South are not in bloom, they are perceived as quite nondescript bushes”
Moving from a remark by botanists James Wandersee and Elisabeth Schussler, theoreticians of plant blindness — incapability to recognize plants in their actual role, thus conferring them an identity — Parco di Arte Vivente in Turin puts an invitation at the core of the third edition of teatrum Botanicum. This festival for emerging artists and curators, operating between artistic and environmental theory and practice, is in fact making an invitation to a shift in perceptive paradigms of art, of the ontological categorization of its means and subjects.

According to psychologist Frederic Bartlett, there are three different attitudes one can show towards an object exceeding our schemata, our consolidated scripts of categorization: Teatrum Botanicum specifically explores the approach of tuning. Revising, tuning our schemes on what can be considered as a work of art, a performance, a practice of setting up: such shift is triggered by the superposition of installations, performances, artists’ interactions in a continuous connection and intersection between places where all these events happen, and a continuous blurring of their expected timeline

The space of PAV fulfils an important role in such system, due to the objects that perform its activation: technical objects generating sound and images, scenic objects structuring the flow of events become — through their reinterpretation and reuse — a bridge between designed landscape and curatorial time. These objects can generate theory, be both the channel and the actor of a reflection, of that tuning of categories activated by the contents of the festival.
Installations, Performances and interactions are created and curated by Enrico Boccioletti, Roberto Casti, Michela Depetris, Mimì Enna, Furlani-Gobbi, Sara Manente and Christophe Albertijn, Gabriele Rendina Cattani , Claudio Rocchetti, Youngboyswritinggroup. System is completed by Hotel Antropocene, (press conference curated by Federico Nejrotti e Nelle Gevers);  Acheropitismo, hybrid project curated by ALMARE with Renato Grieco, Andrea Valle and Mauro Lanza; dj sets by Sabla and XIII.
