Sixty paintings and drawings which look at the years of lyrical realism. Futurist, Metaphysical and primitivist work from which emerges a new approach to nature and the landscape of Carlo Carrà in the major collection which opens 21 June at the Centro Saint Bénin in Aosta, curated by Massimo Carrà, Elena Pontiggia and Alberto Fiz.

The project “Carlo Carrà. Il realismo lirico degli anni Venti” (Carlo Carrà. Lyrical realism of the Twenties) is intended as an occasion to revisit Carrà beginning with the Ritratto del padre from 1903 going on to La stanza from 1965. In this time frame are presented the principal stages of his work across a series of masterpieces made between 1910 and 1920 such as Piazza del Duomo a Milano from 1910, Ritmi di oggetti from 1911, Il fiasco from 1915 and Ricordi d’infanzia from 1916.

The watershed year could be considered 1922 when Carrà decided to detach himself definitively from the experiences of the group in order to go his own way. 25 works of notable importance from this period are displayed in Aosta. Another feature of the collection is the presentation of a series of portraits and self portraits by Carrà highlighting the physiological characteristics of a study based on the most secret part of the self.
