Snake: the modular design that shapes space

Designed by the studio Pio e Tito Toso for Diemme, Snake is a flexible and dynamic furniture system that interprets modularity as both a design language and a tool for building narrative, evolving, and shared spaces.

In contemporary environments—where work, relationships, and creativity intertwine in a continuous flow—modularity has become one of the most powerful keys in modern design. It is no longer just a functional concept, but a true narrative language that allows the creation of changeable, adaptable spaces that interact with their users. Furniture thus becomes a tool for spatial storytelling, capable of narrating stories through shapes and the connections between elements.
In this context emerges Snake, the new modular system by Diemme designed by Pio e Tito Toso, which offers a dynamic and poetic interpretation of furniture as a form of “micro-architecture” and a device for three-dimensional storytelling.

A system that creates new shared spaces

Snake was born from a simple yet ambitious idea: to create furniture capable of evolving alongside spaces and people.
“The concept behind it was that of an integrated ecosystem,” explain the designers, “where each element interacts with the others through standardized and reversible connections, allowing furniture that adapts, grows, and reconfigures itself over time.” The result is a complete and coherent system made up of benches of various lengths, tables, partitions, and accessories that can be freely combined. Each module is conceived as an autonomous unit yet designed for connection—able to generate infinite configurations: linear, angular, island-based, or more articulated compositions that define micro-environments for work or relaxation.
“Each module is independent yet designed to link with the others,” add Pio e Tito Toso, “allowing for endlessly diverse solutions that naturally integrate into any space.”

The concept behind it was that of an integrated ecosystem, where each element interacts with the others through standardized and reversible connections, allowing furniture that adapts, grows, and reconfigures itself over time.

The balance between soft lines and essential geometries creates a fluid, contemporary visual language, suitable for both workspaces and lounge or waiting areas. Snake is furniture that moves with life itself, following the changing rhythms of workdays and relationships, offering ever-new scenarios while maintaining aesthetic and functional coherence.

An open project between customization and creative dialogue

One of the project’s main strengths lies in its high degree of customization: finishes, fabrics, and accessories can be chosen and combined to create unique configurations that reflect the identity of each space. It is not just modular furniture—it is a truly open system that evolves over time.
“A coherent modular language allows for free composition of seating, work surfaces, and accessories,” the designers emphasize, “creating endlessly different solutions—from informal lounge areas to agile workspaces, to zones for meetings and relaxation.”

At the heart of the project lies a constant dialogue between the design studio and the company, built on shared values.
“The collaboration with Diemme stems from a natural harmony of intent: the same vision of design, the same pursuit of balance between beauty and functionality,” explain Pio e Tito Toso.
Within this shared vision, every detail is the result of constructive exchange, where Diemme’s manufacturing expertise meets the designers’ creative sensibility.
“The result is an authentic, essential product that combines research, attention to detail, and a passion for what is beautiful, useful, and enduring.” Snake therefore embodies a way of understanding design as a culture of living within space. Through its flexibility, it transforms furniture into a living, narrative language—one capable of organizing, storytelling, and continually reinventing contemporary environments.
