New hybrids between home and office

At the Salone del Mobile 2024, four new collections by four internationally recognised designers appeared alongside Mara’s best sellers in a new exhibition concept designed by Ferruccio Laviani.

AMDL Circle, Christophe Pillet, Ferruccio Laviani, Marcello Ziliani: four international designers are experimenting with new ways of living the office, but also the home, through products that combine technical innovation and aesthetic refinement. Mara, a historic Italian company specialising in the production of innovative, aesthetic and functional furnishing systems and elements, invited the four authors to present as many collections that, at the Salone del Mobile, flanked some of its most renowned office and home-office proposals.

To narrate these transformations, the company's stand and its scenography were completely redesigned by Ferruccio Laviani. The concept "Transcendence: The Fusion of Living and Working Spaces" illustrates the brand's renewed identity, which is increasingly balanced between the office and residential dimensions. Within a neutral setting inspired by contemporary eco-architectures - ‘mini-ambientations’ representative of everyday contexts - both the new collections and Mara's best sellers coexisted and interacted thanks to a complementary stylistic language, albeit the result of different creative signatures.

Among the novelties presented is Typo, a chair designed by AMDL Circle, the studio founded by architect Michele De Lucchi. The product reinterprets the traditional office chair on wheels, and challenges Mara's own design, through the study of steel profile bending techniques. Distinctive features are in fact those deliberate and refined draperies of the structure, created by bending the square section steel tube along the diagonal. For the Salone del Mobile, Typo is also presented in a special Limited Edition, in collaboration with Alpi.

From the collaboration with Christophe Pillet comes the Foil table, which plays with minimal thicknesses and discreet perimeter frames to redefine the archetype of the contemporary metal table. This result emerges as much in the fixed version as in the model with a top integrated with the Mara mechanisms that allow the top itself to translate and reveal the cable space underneath.

Ferruccio Laviani is the author of the new Elle bookcase: a transversal, modular, modern architecture, a tribute to lightness. Its modular structure allows numerous compositions, thus accommodating spaces and needs. The stylistic feature, however, is contained in the ‘L’ element that gives shape to the shelves: by playing with the orientations, it is possible to create closed forms, thus containers or dividers, or open ones for visible shelves.

The latest addition is the new version of the Icon seating family, presented last year with Marcello Ziliani and already considered a success. For the new version, the lines of the seat are now moulded in a polypropylene shell that makes it ideal for office, contract and outdoor contexts, thanks to a resistant and durable material. And Icon High-back: the polypropylene armchair is also configured in an evolved expression with a high, padded backrest and seat cushion.
