The future of the door is smart and is called Ether

Designed by Marco Piva for Lualdi, Ether is an innovative door system that integrates an intelligent, control-rich, adaptive and highly customisable interface.

In an ever-changing world, there is an increasing need for products capable of integrating with new human habits, representing new lifestyles, combining innovation and customisation.

One of the central elements of any architecture is not immune to this transformation: the door. The transitive object par excellence, doors are symbolic components of every building and a fundamental tool in regulating the passage between inside and outside, public and private. On the one hand, changing social behaviour and housing models, and on the other, technological development are re-proposing a new traditional physiognomy of the door object.

One of the companies that knows how best to reinterpret this contemporary trend is Lualdi, which with its doors and partition systems has been able to reinvent spaces by creating new possible interior scenarios. Lualdi develops solutions integrated in architectures and constantly studies new applications of materials and technologies, thus going beyond the traditional and codified production of doors.

The Italian company's latest innovation is a functional, cutting-edge, intelligent and interactive system: Ether. Designed by Marco Piva, in collaboration with Microdevice, the door features an evolved, smart jamb: a vertical block housing the intelligent interface, rich in controls, easily customisable and completely concealed within the door system.

Another central feature is customisation: the different finishes of the Lualdi product can be combined with the functional packages designed by Microdevice to meet the particular needs of each user. Marco Piva and Lualdi developed three versions for as many types of use (Office, Residential and Wellness). Each version comes with a package of finishes and accessories designed for the type of function. The material combinations of wood, glass and aluminium are specific to the different usage scenarios of the system. The distinctive combinations express a rich and harmonious proposal of aesthetic and material solutions, as is customary in Lualdi products."

Ether integrates - right from the early design stages - with the load-bearing wall and partition construction system and with the electrical and home automation systems, through a simple plugin to be connected at the time of installation. It is the ideal product in both new construction and renovation and energy retrofit contexts. The system is also characterised by complete user autonomy in maintenance and total customisation of product functions.
