An Ideal Collection

Richard Avedon, Gabriele Basilico, Paolo Gioli, Arthur Fellig aka Weegee and many others in an “Ideal Collection”. Until 15 January 2022, in the Leica Galerie exhibition space in Via Mengoni 4, the work of these great artists of photography is brought to the wider public in a to-say-the-least extraordinary collection. Selected by Denis Curti, curator of the exhibition, these pictures represent an authentic journey through the history of photography.

The concept is to provide a small manual of sorts, in which these works may prove instructive to those willing to start their own collection. Printing techniques, artist’s proofs, and limited print runs, to understand which photographic works are worth buying. “Collecting photographs is a continuous discovery, but where does one start? This was the question I asked myself when I envisioned this exhibition” underlines Denis Curti “and so I thought of putting together a selection of great names of contemporary photography who would allow viewers to find their bearings in the market, while also assuring a display of undisputed artistic quality.” A time-honoured point of reference for photography enthusiasts, the Leica Galerie hosts lessons, panels, talks and valuable events like this exhibition that besides being a cultural event offers viewers insights on the art of photo collecting.
