With its new System One, unveiled last week at the CES in Las Vegas, IBM is creating the first integrated quantum computing system for scientific and commercial use. The System One’s sleek design could land it a prominent role in a sci-fi movie, but it’s actually part of IBM’s strategy to “clarify complexity with a captivating aesthetic”. The System One’s glass airtight enclosure serves a purely functional purpose, too, by helping the sensitive computer to maintain its fragile stability. The first System One was built with the help of Goppion, a Milan firm specializing in high-end display cases for museums and art collections.
