Symfonisk, the connected speaker by Ikea and Sonos

The giant of multi-room music is putting its know-how into Symfonisk, the new line of intelligent speakers from the Swedish brand.

An agreement has been reached: Ikea will be collaborating with Sonos for the production of a line dedicated to audio. After all, the time is right. On the one hand we have the Swedish self-assembly furniture giant, which has already worked in the past with other brands to lend a touch of technology to their products. We have for example Thompson, or Samsung, which has worked on the integration of wireless charging in furniture since 2015, or TCL, which created televisions with the Ikea brand in 2012. The latest partner is Sonos, a USA company which since 2002 has been focusing on a system of modular speakers that can be placed in various areas of the home and all controlled via a simple app.

The first result of this collaboration was Eneby, a Bluetooth speaker available in two different sizes with very minimalist lines (did someone say Dieter Rams?), which got a rather lukewarm reception from audiophiles. Now, however, they are upping their game with Symfonisk, a smart speaker that will obviously blend in with the furniture but that above all will be part of Tradfri, the Swedish company’s home automation system that currently offers various solutions for intelligent lighting.

At the moment there is no further information available for Symfonisk, as the speakers are currently in the design stage. What is however known is the release date, which will be in August 2019, as well as the fact that the price will be lower than products sold under the Sonos brand name. One only has to remember that the standard speaker from the USA brand, the One, equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity and the Alexa vocal assistant, costs 229 euros.
