The DSKY Moonwatch is a wearable tribute to the Space Age

The UK-based startup Apollo Instruments is now shipping a unique wristwatch inspired by the design and engineering of the Apollo Program.

Apollo Instruments, a UK-based hardware startup, has created the DSKY Moonwatch, a wristwatch inspired by the design of the DSKY, the onboard computer of the Apollo Program spacecrafts.

The Moonwatch has a bright green monochrome display (it can’t get more retro-computing than that) and an oversized numpad on the bottom of the timepiece.

“The DSKY was an integral component of the Apollo space program, playing a critical role in the success of the Apollo space missions”, says Apollo Instruments. “It served as the primary interface between the astronauts and the spacecraft’s guidance, navigation, and control computer. The DSKY allowed astronauts to input commands, receive real-time flight data, and monitor the spacecraft’s systems. Its legacy extends far beyond its immediate impact, influencing future advancements in computer interface design and shaping the way we interact with technology.”

The Moonwatch can work as a calculator, like the good old Casios of yore, but it also sports several other features, such as GPS positioning, configurable time zones, a stopwatch, a timer, and an alarm.

To add an even nerdier touch, Apollo Instruments implemented a micro-USB port at the back of the chassis through which users can program the watch’s embedded hardware components, including the digital and annunciator displays, keypad, GPS, and FRAM.

The DSKY Moonwatch costs £659; customers can order one from Apollo Instruments’ website.
