Despite the consumer crisis, the expansion plan for Scalo Milano Outlet&More, designed by the London-based firm Design International, is taking shape. With an investment of 40 million euros, it is expected to open to the public in October of this year. The project aspires to transform the metropolitan outlet into a “smart district,” capable of serving the surrounding area. The design, characterized by large windows that create dynamism and engage passersby, develops in continuity with the volumes of the pre-existing area, evoking the site’s industrial origins as the historic Saiwa factory. Additionally, there will be a large outdoor space and various panoramic terraces along the perimeter.
This new area will add 9,000 sqm to the current 35,000, with 32 new retail units, including 27 shops and 5 restaurants. Moreover, 1,300 sqm will be dedicated to a co-working space, offering a place for freelancers, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and students from the nearby university district. This area will also host the House of Innovation by Retail Hub, an environment designed to experiment with new services dedicated to digital natives.
