The winners of the World Press Photo 2024 in various regions of the world have been announced. The 24 winners, 6 honorable mentions, and the two special jury prizes were selected by an independent jury from among 61,062 submissions by 3,851 photographers from 130 different countries. The awarded images document some of the most urgent and dramatic problems we are facing today, from wars to the climate crisis, through migrations, famines, and diseases such as cancer and dementia, to the impact of capitalism on indigenous populations in South America and the silenced deaths of LGBTQ+ community members. By spotlighting these stories, the award aims to emphasize the importance of dissemination and awareness related to current events, as well as the need to ensure press freedom in every corner of the planet.
