Piedra Sal

It took eleven months for Mexican firm vgz arquitectura y diseño to design and deliver a major renovation project for the Pedra Sal restaurant in Mexico City.

Located at a complicated corner of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, the Piedra Sal restaurant by vgz arquitectura y diseño was a challenge due to the irregular-shaped space and its location on the first floor of a building. The project focused the design on the main access.

With short time and low budget, the project was designed and delivered in eleven months. The former corner of the building was demolished in order to generate a plaza and build two concrete walls as a support for the stairs block, using wood, steel and glass lattice in facade, in order to combine structural and aesthetic needs at the same time. The wooden box invites visitors to discover a large terrace, covered with a wooden pergola. The space opens to the trees on the street, to the sky and to a privileged view towards Paseo de la Reforma.

A monochromatic color-palette was opted, with all the materials in shades of gray and wood. The central bar was designed as the focal element with a brass elements. Everything was designed and manufactured especially for Piedra Sal, from the concrete floor in shades of gray, to the liana ceiling combined with black clay lamps that provide a cozy atmosphere.
