TANK architects renovated a cat shelter in Tokyo, run by an animal rescue charity. The project provides a space that functions as a lounge where cat-lovers meet with their potential future pet.
A cat tower
In order to make it easier for kitties to be adopeted, TANK studio designed a cat bar in Tokyo, at the entrance of an animal charity shelter, made of scratchty OSB and bands.

The room itself is a former family dwelling and workshop of a metalworker. The new cat café has linoleum flooring for easy cleaning, and OSB for its scratch resistance against clawing. There are also tables, chairs, cat towers and some small boxes. The design focused on the do-it-yourself and expandability: the design of the cat towers, is made with simple structures by stacking boxes with holes connected to each other. Industrial woven bands generally used for securing material on trucks were used for assembly. The same philosophy was used for the tables, to easy modify the room’s layout.
