Dechem and Augarten

Prague design studio Dechem created a collection of vases and lamps reinterpreting the porcelain and glass tradition of Augarten, one of Europe’s oldest companies.

For the tenth anniversary of the Vienna Design Week, the Czech design studio Dechem (Michaela Tomiskova and Jakub Jandourek) cooperates with the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory Augarten within the festival’s Passionswege.

Augarten Wien is the second oldest in Europe, with a long history that goes back to 1718. Since the very beginning, this Austrian enterprise has been working high quality porcelain, specialized in handcrafted production and painting. Prague design studio Dechem was inspired by this rich tradition and chose a table lamp as starting object for their project.

Its form recalls Augarten classics: using the techniques and materials of the porcelain manufactory and glass, the designers’ favorite material, they have enabled Viennese handicraft tradition to beam out through a contemporary light source that combines these two materials in an experimental way.
