In November’s issue Nicola Di Battista calls the Italian industrialists and entrepreneurs inviting them to become actors of a renewal through their unique knowledge.

This month Domus presents the last building by the New York firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the McMurtry Building at Stanford University, centered around the library; the parochial complex Santa Gianna Beretta Molla with its great skylight in the form of a cross completed by Quattroassociati near Milan; Cala House in Madrid by Alberto Campo Baeza characterized by concatenate spaces and the project for the renovation of the Austrian Parliament in Vienna by Jabornegg & Palffy Architects.

In a long talk the Bouroullec brothers tell Domus about their modus operandi, that takes long time to get from the first ideas to the final object. In this International Year of Light Carlotta de Bevilacqua reflects upon “good light”, while the exhibition on view at MAXXI, curated by Hou Hanru, is dedicated to designer and artists who are inventing a new total creative work: the Transformers.

And still about art, the Malevič’s exhibition at GAMEC Bergamo – Domus has translated one of his articles into English for the first time – and the “itinerant” work by Diego Esposito Latitudine Longitudine that the artist created in various cities in the world using local stone.

The balance between technology and humanism, in addition to a tight relationship with the city, are the hallmarks of Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona; John Tuomey’s teaching method at the School of Architecture, University College of Dublin is based on the conviction that creative thinking can take flight from the study and knowledge of the conditions of place.

With his Feedback Hans Kollhoff looks at Berlin, that is not his hometown but makes feel Berliner who settled there. Mauro Felicori’s Elzeviro underlines how the “new museology” and the “creative city” must not remain separate to imagine the museum as a living, productive place.

In the special report Smart City we feature a number of architectural projects in the world chosen as good examples of urban transformation, toghether with media’s and transport systems’ projects that prefigure mobility in the coming years.
