Gió Marconi Gallery

In Milan Kuehn Malvezzi conceived the conversion of a backyard workshop to a gallery space as an occasion to explore the boundaries between the private and the common space.

A sequence of thresholds leads the visitor from the street through old courtyards to the new location of the Gió Marconi Gallery, designed in Milan by Kuehn Malvezzi.

A light box suspended above the entrance door is the only architectural measure visible on the outside. Creating a contrast against the existing context, which is perceived immediately, this intervention indicates the access to a new content and marks the boundary of the exhibition.

Starting right at the entrance a two-level bench runs along the length of the wall and creates a public spot that invites visitors to contemplate and to converse and that also acts as a filter between exhibition and bureau. An integrated staircase links the exhibition to the office spaces, which are situated on an upper level and are interconnected by room-high doors to obtain a visual continuum.

The new gallery space will be inaugurated February, the 19th 2015 with the exhibition “Yes we are open. Group show.”
