Dimitri Bähler: Patterns & Colors

Young Swiss designer Dimitri Bähler will present at Design Parade 8 Villa Noailles a series of colourful anodized aluminium hooks and a collection of patterns.

Selected for the Design Parade 8 at Villa Noailles, designer Dimitri Bähler created a series of colourful anodized aluminium hooks. The series Voelt is a laser cut and folded in a way to hide the fixation system — a simple screw — this system gives the object an unexpected volume. Produced in local Swiss factories, this product is sold by La Vague.

“The Patterns & Colors series, instead, is a process that I developed during a residency at EXKWC, the European Centre for Ceramic in Den Bosch, The Netherlands, where I have been working day and night from February to May 2013”, explains Dimitri Bähler. “The series is produced through an embossing technique. Indeed, a patterned latex foil is pressed on clay between a positive and negative mould. The slab deforms with the patterns that are exactly reproduced on the volume, and a 2D design transfers on a volume.” The shapes are always the same, but the twelve patterns change: as the latex foils are bigger than the volumes, they are applied slightly differently from the previous one, and every piece is then unique.
