Raw Edges Design Studio has completed Kenny, a new armchair for Italian furniture manufacturer Moroso. With Kenny, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay sought to achieve a graceful rounded three-dimensional surface using a simple pattern — a singular linear strip — and turning a flat material into three dimensional volumetric shapes.
To emphasize the simplicity of a rectangular strip being turned into this rounded curvaceous armchair, Raw Edges used Kvadrat's Hallingdal 65 fabric, a "warp and woof" textile, where two different coloured yarns are woven perpendicular to each other.
By pulling out the "warp" — the longitudinal thread in a roll —, more of the "woof"’s colour is exposed, creating a linear graphic that emphasises the shape and geometry of the armchair.
