The program examines the area connecting Lugano and Ponte Tresa, which due to the extent and capillarity of its infrastructural network offers the opportunity to create management and landscape development tools which should converge with the interests of public and private organisations and academic institutions. After having addressed the topics of the airport and the FLP railway line through round tables and exhibitions held at i2a, the workshop will be the starting point for new reflections on the railway system and also on social media.
The train can be considered as an extension of cities' public space, capable of connecting large scale geography. The new telecommunication infrastructure also has an impact on social life and an influence on public space. The workshop and the conferences — happening every day at 21:00 – will attempt to solve these issues and also those which are more immaterial and focus on the relationship between infrastructure and city in their attempt to reconcile the different "layers" of contemporary urban condition.
The results of the students' research will be presented 4 August at 20:00. The parallel series of conferences — free and open to the public — for "Public Space in a Digital Era" runs from 30 July to 2 August:
30 July, 21:00 — Jachen Könz, architect and urban planner
31 July, 21:00 — Alberto Figuccio and Mehdi Aouabed, Fil Rouge Architecture, Geneva
1 August, 21:00 — Oliviero Godi, Exposure Architects, Bergamo
2 August, 21:00 — Frederic Levrat, ARX works
