Artek and Mike Meirè: Stool 60

As part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Alvar Aalto's classic stool, designer Mike Meirè has customised a series which will be on display in museums and public spaces.

As part of the 2013 celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Alvar Aalto's classic Stool 60 for Artek, the Finnish brand has decided to promote a series of special initiatives during the course of this and next year. German designer Mike Meirè has customised a series of stools, with a palette of colours traditionally used by Aalto. This special edition will take the stage in a series of museums and public spaces.

"When I read Alvar Aalto's 1935 Manifest, I was struck by his visionary thoughts on modern humanism, which were still so contemporary and encouraging," says Mike Meirè. "By instinct, I took the iconic Stool 60 and started to paint..."

An installation featuring the customised stools, also designed by Meirè, was presented during the 2012 Salone del Mobile.
