Historian Peter T. Lang specializes on the history and theory of post-war Italian architecture, with a focus on
Italian experimental design from the sixties. In this conference at Mexico City's LIGA, a space for architecture, Lang will lecture on the cultural transformations of the 60s and 70s in Italy. As a focal point of the lecture, Lang will discuss MoMA's 1972 exhibition "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape," curated by Emilio Ambasz and with participants such as Superstudio, Archizoom, 9999 Space Electronic, Gae Aulenti, Joe Colombo, Ugo La
Pietra, Gaetano Pesce, and Gruppo Strum. During the lecture, the 1972 Superstudio film "Super Surface" will be shown: a rare opportunity to watch this historical movie.
Peter T . Lang holds a Bachelor in Architecture from Syracuse University (1980) and a Ph.D. in history
and urban studies from NYU (2000). A Fulbright Fellow, Lang is Associate Professor with the
Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University in College Station. From the Fall of 2001 to the
Spring of 2009 he served as permanent Texas A&M faculty at the Santa Chiara Center in Castiglion
Fiorentino, Italy.
