Aranda\Lasch presented their scheme for the new site for
Design Miami, the design fair directed by Ambra Medda. A
temporary exhibition pavilion extending over 4,000 square
metres will host the core of the collection at the junction
between NE 39th Street and 1st Court in the design
district, from December 3 to 6.
Benjamin Aranda and Chris Lasch have come up with a
system of translucent vinyl tents (made by US company
EventStar) that are combined with a nine-metre-high glass
facade. The result is a bright environment with light
filtering through the semi-transparent facade, generating
shadows and reflections, while the breeze that comes
through the gap between the screen and the wall helps to
ventilate the pavilion.
Inside, the central section of the exhibition will be
dedicated an installation and work by the Campana
brothers, designers of the year, and will be big enough to
contain a small palm grove that was already on the site.
