Lifetools: four “design for all” products on show at Milan Design Week

Ways to face the day-to-day difficulties when we experience mobility issues: this is the mission behind Nicola Golfari’s Lifetools line, on show at Opificio 31.

Often we find ourselves having to face mobility and safety problems at home, due to temporary mobility limitations, disabilities, or simply age. The Lifetools research set out to use advanced technology paired with aesthetic quality to find effective solutions to these problems.

“All of us design lovers find it natural to think of the design of a new chair, a new table, a new lamp. But how many of us believe it would be interesting to design a broom, a medical walker, or a TV set?” asks architect, art director, and Lifetools designer Nicola Golfari.

The collection includes several objects and items made with high-quality materials and designed to last, reflecting the principles of industrial design as well as the positive values of a mindful production.

Let’s start with Pill, a foldable shower seat with a functional and invisible rototranslating mechanism; when closed, the seat becomes a simple coloured silicone disc – an aesthetic element inside the shower that reveals its function only when necessary.

Next up is the Slice Grip safety grab bar with its curved extremities and special central finish assuring a safe grip; or Tilt the mirror, with its internal reclining glass that can adapt to the needs of different users; lastly, Quattroviti, the shower stool with a soft silicone seat, warm to the touch and made very stable thanks to its metallic structure, and curved tubular legs with ABS feet for great stability even on the smoothest surfaces.

Four apparently simple products whose every detail has been carefully thought through: because, let’s face it, design can improve our daily life if made and conceived with the intention to solve those small but nonetheless important difficulties that anyone can experience in their life.

The line will be presented in Milan during the Milano Design Week as part of Scivola: the event dedicated to accessibility, at Opificio 31 (Tortona area) from 9–14 April.
