Having a poet on your bedside table capable of writing a different poem every 60 seconds: its name is Poem/1, and it is an evolution of the concept of a radio clock and a table clock. It has the help of Artificial Intelligence and an aesthetic solution that updates unforgettable references for the genre.
The clock features an e-paper screen that closely echoes the look of printed paper. It uses generative artificial intelligence – the same underlying technology as the popular ChatGPT app by OpenAI – to display the exact time by composing a unique poem or aphorism for each minute of every day, adapting the meaning to the precise moment of the day in which it will be generated and displayed.
Designed in CAD and 3D-printed, Poem/1 employs a dedicated server to fuel its poetic imagination, drawing upon OpenAI’s resources. Recognizing that continuous requests to ChatGPT would incur significant costs and resource waste, developers opted to entrust the creation of poems to a central system, which will then share them with the various active devices.
Poem/1 is a crowdfunding proposal: those interested can contribute to the campaign by pre-ordering it on Indiegogo starting from 99 pounds, and the first units will be delivered from next August only in the United States and the United Kingdom. Currently, there are no further details regarding its launch in Italy.
