What does it mean to be a young designer during a global pandemic? The American Hardwood Export Council (Ahec) asked twenty creatives from sixteen different countries and creates the Discovered project, in partnership with the Design Museum in London. The designers were invited to imagine and realise a large-scale functional and furnishing project, intended for multiple uses, both domestic and public spaces. The starting material is noble: American hardwood in three types: maple, cherry and red oak. Followed and supported by international mentors including names such as Tomoko Azumi, Maria Jeglinska, Nathan Yong, Adam Markovitz and Ahec's production partners, the designers have access to the highest level of craftsmanship. The objects will be exhibited throughout the year at the Design Museum while the process of their creation will be documented online and published on the discovered.global portal.
