A pink pool creates a dreamy waterworld in China

X + Living designs 2,200 sqm fluid, multi-faceted and water-like interiors of a luxury swimming club for children.

Loong Swim Club is a swimming club for parents and children recently completed in Suzhou, China, 100 km far from Shanghai. Studio X + LIVING divided the 2,200 sqm space into five main areas – reception, reading room, swimming pool, bath and restaurant – which converse with each other in a fluid and playful way.

The prevailing figure is in fact a liquid, evanescent and dreamlike atmosphere in shades of pink, lilac and light blue that inspires and relaxes. The reception starts the first chapter of a spatial narrative design focused on the theme of dream, which in children’s magical thinking mingles with reality: a big whale welcomes its guests floating around a column, while the helpdesk evokes a ship that is about to set sail. The seats of the reading room, full of children books, are padded crescent moons that make you imagine being cradled by the moon.

The pool is the most evocative space, with pink and black mosaic arches and a pale blue water where children can swim under the watchful parents’ eye behind the large windows. The most playful part is reserved for the restaurant, a wonderland with a Eggshell Castle in the middle and a ceiling made of mirrors. Around a table, where birthday kids sit on a throne, there are then luminous balloons, symbol of a world where everything is possible.
