The central theme of the seventh edition of the contemporary art Biennial to be held in the heart of the United Arab Emirates is “belonging”, the effect. What is the effect of such a decentralisation with respect to the numerous western art biennials? What does it mean to invest a city that is Arab, but with strong points of contact with the West, with a manifestation of contemporary art that examines the idea of “glocal”?
This reflection, within the rapid flowering of art biennials worldwide dedicated generally to globalisation, assumes a particular character for the place in which it occurs. Alongside the exhibition, in which 70 artists will be taking part, the city will be hosting panel debates and seminars. F.C.
