“New Ocean” is Doug Aitken’s first solo show in Italy

The solo show – his first in Italy – held by Californian artist Doug Aitken, born in 1968, is a journey between reality and imagination, between aquatic worlds and suburban wanderings. Presented in the form of a complex series of video installations, it is hosted by the Fondazione Sandretto re Rebaudengo in Turin, which for the occasion has allowed its structure and route to be radically transformed.

A boy prodigy of video art and installation, Aitken has brought two recent works to Turin: the documentary New Ocean (2001), filmed in Argentina and in the Arctic Circle and produced by the foundation itself, consisting of nine projections that completely fill the space with images of water; and Interiors (2002), in which apparently independent cinematographic stories are merged through the transparency of images, colours and sounds.
