Ceramic surfaces enhance the duality of a restaurant

Ceramic surfaces by FMG and Iris Ceramica play a leading role in interpreting the two essences of a restaurant in Fiumicino, and conveying a sense of comfort, elegant cosiness and harmony.

The Follis restaurant in Fiumicino is an activity that best interprets contemporary trends in catering, combining experimentation and rediscovery of local culinary culture. The restaurant concept was born from the encounter of different souls: from gourmet cuisine to bistrot cuisine, passing through mixology. It is no coincidence that "Follis" is the name of a Roman coin that emphasises the restaurant's dual identity: one linked to a simple and informal offer and a second more refined and innovative one.

Architect Franco Costa, owner of the Costa Group studio - a company specialising in interior design for haute cuisine - was called upon to interpret this concept through the interior design project. A key element in enhancing the duality of the Follis restaurant are the surfaces, chosen from the FMG and Iris Ceramica proposals.

The Living area, the most relaxed and informal, is dominated by a long American bar, around which various stools, tables and sofas are arranged. The décor is enhanced by the flooring in FMG's Sahara Noir technical ceramic, which recalls a refined marble: its absolute black background is enlivened by sharp flashes of caramel, orange and cream, which recall and reflect the golden hues and warm light flooding the room. The walls, on the other hand, are characterised by the sinuous streaks of FMG's Onice Grigio, which presents a succession of ochre, sand and ash veins, creating a highly decorative and refined effect.

This graphic and chromatic play of surfaces continues in the corridor connecting the entrance space to the Slowly room. In this space the Sahara Noir and Onyx Grey surfaces combine with a more intimate, reserved and refined atmosphere, with soft lighting, round glass tables with oak wood bases, two sculptures of sea creatures and velvet fabric seating.

Outside, the restaurant has a veranda that hosts a lounge area in which Whole Chevron Cotto by Iris Ceramica warms the room with its artisanal flavour, dialoguing naturally with the materials of the furnishings, including the red majolica of the stove-fireplace. The herringbone laying punctuates the space with grace and dynamism, expanding the perception of its dimensions.
