130 square metres overlooking the sea, in Palermo. The project for the renovation of a disused dwelling, by Studio La Leta Architettura, starts out from the need (and privilege) of having to deal with a double view: the coast on one side and the historic city centre on the other. Emphasising the home's panoramic view thus became the starting point for the development of the entire project, in which the windows played a crucial role, furnishing elements with the function of framing the landscape. "We had to optimise every centimetre of the pre-existing architectural holes, which is why we chose window frames with thin profiles and a reduced central node, which allow the use of larger double-glazing and thus more natural light in," explains architect Giorgio La Leta, who supervised the project. Partitions were kept to a minimum so as not to fragment the flat and maximise its brightness. In the living area, a wooden container volume has been inserted - in an axial position - which, without shielding the view but orienting it, divides the space into two macro-zones and at the same time performs different functions: on one side, at the entrance, a cloakroom, while on the other, it becomes a real smartworking area.
Oknoplast frames to enhance Palermo landscape
Prolux Evolution windows by Oknoplast were chosen by Studio La Leta Architettura to frame the panorama of Palermo between the sea and the city.
The change of flooring between wood and stoneware distinguishes the kitchen from the rest of the living area: here there is a peninsula completely clad in black Fenix and a large oak wall-container framing the large Prolux Evolution windows by Oknoplast, providing an enviable view of the outside. From the living room, the bathrooms lead to the sleeping area where there is a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a spectacular view of Castello a Mare, as well as a second bedroom. "In this project, the windows have contributed to a unique design and, inside the flat, they provide modernity, light and sophistication. We succeeded in achieving the objective by bringing harmony with the surrounding environment and offering a unique and contemporary living experience to this home, without neglecting the importance of technical performance to achieve significant energy savings," Giorgio La Leta concludes. Prolux Evolution is a PVC window frame that stands out for its perfectly symmetrical design, emphasised by its centrally positioned handle, slim profile and reduced central knot. These features allow the window frame to gain valuable glass surface area and thus support a larger glazing unit made of extra-light glass with high transparency. In this way, Prolux Evolution can provide up to 22% more light than a conventional PVC window. In addition, the class A profile, low-emissivity glazing and shape memory gaskets enable Prolux Evolution to achieve high technical parameters (Uw up to 0.8 W/m2K with triple glazing).
