Fluidity in the kitchen

Studio García Cumini has designed the Tangram kitchen for Cesar: five freely modular elements to generate original and contemporary configurations.

In the evolution of the home, the kitchen is historically the most significant room. It has always been the subject of different uses and interpretations, both symbolic and functional: it is a place of work, the centre of family life, a laboratory for experimentation... Today, the kitchen is no longer a service space but, given its beauty and the new concepts of luxury, a place to be exhibited and lived in at the same time, capable of becoming a status symbol and representing the flexibility of our everyday life.

The new Tangram kitchen by Cesar, designed by the Garcia Cumini studio, expresses this concept. The designers are inspired by an ancient Chinese game from which the product takes its name and the modular logic and the possibility of juxtaposing different geometries to form ever new figures. Five different modules – not only linear or circular, but with variable soft geometries – create different compositions to adapt to different contexts and needs: in some places, for example, the shapes shrink to not take up too much space and facilitate passage. We can therefore find kitchen islands with unusual geometries, compositions leaning against walls or solutions that embrace corners.

"The lines have softened thanks to the newly designed modules, a challenging element in an industrial system but, Cesar likes to take these proposals on board. The roundness is dictated by the variable radius to create a sinuosity in the line, a fluidity that is not only product code but also contributes to thinking about spaces with a different perspective, a freer design that goes beyond the concept of the rectangle!" explain Vicente Garcia and Cinzia Cumini.

A key feature of the Tangram kitchen, an element that accentuates its fluidity, is the three-dimensional door called Groove, composed of a sequence of vertical millings that create a pattern with an irregular rhythm. In addition to the aesthetic definition of the furniture, these grooves also camouflage the junction between the modules, thus ensuring a unified appearance of the kitchen. The same effect of sinuous continuity is also ensured by the Macaron workmanship on the edge of the stone worktop, which recalls the traditional drip grooves, combining functionality and the preciousness of the convexity, handmade using ancient techniques.

Enriching the design are the new Oi and Accento handles, designed to fit into the grooves of the three-dimensional door. In addition, the Tangram sideboard completes the collection. This wall-mounted or double-sided sideboard can also be designed for living and dining areas, creating fluidity and continuity in the transition between different areas of the home. The whole gives a delicately contemporary, feminine sign of absolute originality.
