Transparent connections between indoors and outdoors

The minimalist design and countless functionalities of the Schüco AS FD (Folding Door) sliding system enable the creation of a light and essential building envelope.

The research for maximum transparency of the building envelope is a distinctive feature of modernity in architecture. A key factor for this type of project is the choice of windows and doors with thin, light and harmonious profiles, able to discreetly fit into different stylistic moods. Schüco adopts this approach with its aluminium windows and doors: ever thinner and more elegant, they tend to disappear in favour of open, airy rooms, open views and continuity between inside and outside. Also pursuing this objective is the new generation of Schüco AS FD (Folding Door) sliding systems, designed to maximise the contribution of natural light as a vehicle for wellbeing and to enhance the perception of space through a variety of possible configurations.

When closed, Schüco AS FD unobstructs the view of the panorama with minimum space requirements; when open, however, the sashes can be folded into thin packages (hence the term 'folding') and moved completely to the side. The result is a minimalist, two-dimensional aesthetic, which guarantees a wide opening and easy passage without steps, offsets or protruding elements. The minimalist design is preserved and enhanced by the coplanarity between sashes and frame and by slim, linear elevations. Available in two different construction depths - 75 or 90 mm - Schüco AS FD has visible centre posts of only 90 mm and a frame that can be partially integrated into the masonry. Schüco AS FD allows the folding sliding door to be configured as required: the folding can be inwards or outwards, with a free and even different number of sashes on both sides (opposing sash configuration). With a hinged leaf, the system can act as an entrance door and facilitate rapid movement.
