Stoneware reinterprets the magic of Venetian terrazzo

Marble chips, also known as "Venetian terrazzo" or "Venetian marble grit", take its name from the city where it became very popular during the Renaissance period, although the first examples of the material can be found as early as Roman times. The master Andrea Palladio, official architect of the Serenissima, considered "excellent the terrazzo as it is used in Venetia". A fundamental characteristic of marble grit is its sustainability: according to tradition, it is obtained from a mixture of marble scraps and crushed stones, which create unique compositions mixed in lime or cement. This recipe, which may seem simple and poor, has given rise to the flooring of Venetian palaces and villas that we all recognise as masterpieces of Italian architecture.

Porcelain stoneware makes it possible to reinterpret the aesthetics of Venetian terrazzo, revolutionising the production process with more efficient, practical and sustainable methods. The materials are combined, mixed and pressed using innovative production systems in zero-emission plants. The result is an extremely compact, non-absorbent, frost-proof surface that is resistant to chemical and atmospheric attack and will last over time.
