Tyvek® and the vanguard for sustainability

Thanks to DuPont's focus on environmental sustainability, Tyvek® is chosen by major global retail brands who share its sensitivity.

The fight against climate change is one of the most important challenges of our time. It is why millions of young people regularly take to the streets and also one of the focuses of the European Union's political and economic action, which aims to reduce by 55% greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. To achieve these ambitious goals efforts at every level are required: public investment in sustainability, industrial production conversion plans, widespread energy efficiency in cities, and changing many of our daily habits. DuPont has been investing energy and resources in sustainability for decades. For example, the brand appointed its first Chief Sustainability Officer 25 years ago. From 2000 to 2006 alone, DuPont invested approximately $6 billion to renew its production in a safer, healthier, more environmentally friendly direction.

The superior strength-to-weight ratio of Tyvek® potentially can reduce energy use in transportation compared to heavier competitive products

For these efforts DuPont has achieved important certifications, such as ISO 14001, which guarantees the company's environmental management system, or the A-Leadership Band in the Carbon Disclosure Program, testifying to a great effort to reduce coal consumption, which fell by around 85% in 2017. DuPont's environmental action is still important for everything related to reducing consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste and water risks at sites in areas subject to water stress.

Tyvek® products extend DuPont company’s commitment to sustainability through their unique properties and performance characteristics. Tyvek® is made without plasticizers or restricted chemicals listed in European Directives such as RoHS or REACH; its functional performance results in less energy and resource consumption, as well as less material waste at the end of product life; Tyvek® can be safely incinerated and, under optimal conditions, will lead to only the release of water and carbon dioxide, leaving no residue; Tyvek® is also easily recycled and it’s a high-value recyclable material. Where available, Tyvek® recycling programs offer customers the opportunity to divert qualifying used Tyvek® goods away from the waste stream and give them a second life in products like pallets, park benches and playground equipment. By selecting DuPont™ Tyvek®, designers can rest assured that their choice is environmentally friendly.

Recycling programs can give worn or discarded Tyvek® products a second life in a range of new uses, including park benches and playground equipment
