Design fostering the encounter between man and nature

The two new Arper collections launched in 2020 continue the process begun with the Soft(er) concept, which puts the well-being of man and the environment on an equal level.

Sharing, sensitivity and simplicity are the core values of every Arper product, which all aim to achieve perfect harmony between human and environmental well-being. The new collections presented by the leading Italian contract design Arper, Adell and Aston Club, have been designed and created with an eye to sustainability. Attention to nature is a component that has always distinguished the company, which already in 2005 created the Arper Environmental Department. This internal research division aims to systematically deal with an increasingly crucial issue, for present and future generations. Through its sustainability journey, Arper is committed to adhere to the most stringent international environmental certifications and to search for and utilize only the best sustainable materials. Additionally, the brand aims to implement production processes that allow the reduction of products’ environmental impact. These apply to all life cycle phases, from the supply of materials (for instance, FSC-certified wood) to the production phase (integrating the LCA assessment), all the way to the end-of-life phase (for instance, by using recycled plastics from post-industrial waste, developing disassemblable products, eliminating the use of glue).  On top of this, Arper creates durable and timeless products, aiming to reduce the production of waste.

It is with all the above in mind that the new collections were developed. The new Adell chair, designed by Lievore + Altherr Désile Park for Arper, looks like a delicate petal or a polished pebble. It is not only the organic shape of the shell that gives the feeling of naturalness, but also its particular concentric texture, inspired by tree rings and shell streaks. The aleatory and irregular course of its lines gives the seat a lively and unique look. A further connection with the environment is given by the sustainability of the shell material: 80%  is made with recycled and recyclable plastic from post-industrial waste . Particular attention has been paid to the subsequent stages of the life cycle: if disassembled correctly all its parts can be recycled or reused. For this reason, the chair is produced without the use of glues and with paints that meet specific environmental requirements. The version of Adell with wooden base has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®.

For Aston Club, French designer Jean-Marie Massaud combines ergonomic comfort and sustainability. Its silhouette echoes the design of Arper’s lounge chair Aston, designed by Jean-Marie Massaud in 2006, and with its elegant, enveloping shapes offers even more comfort. Aston Club is suitable for any type of environment, domestic or business, public or private. Every aspect of the product – from the clear and decisive lines to the welcoming structure – has been designed to guarantee maximum visual and physical comfort. Massaud’s design, both armchair and footrest, can be customized with a wide choice of upholstery, from classic fabrics to contemporary textures. Aston Club is also made in a sustainable way: the chair can be disassembled and completely recycled or reused, it is produced without the use of glues and uses VOC-free powder coatings.
