Sonos first portable speaker is not so portable, but still a great improvement

It’s a bit heavy and not small, sounds great and works both with wifi and bluetooth.

Sonos is the world’s most important company for connected home speakers. Recently, they teamed up with Ikea and today, it goes outdoor with Move, a battery-powered oval shadow-black device which as the name suggests can be freely moved from room to room or even outside. It’s not your daypack ideal speaker. It’s quite huge and heavy (3 kilos). But it’s perfect if you need a device which can be moved to a terrace or the backyard, or which follows you when you get a shower. And you can store it in the trunk of your car when going to the beach. Move connects to the home wifi interacting and fully integrates in an existing Sonos ecosystem, and supports more than a hundred streaming services, multiple voice assistants, AirPlay2, and more, but can also be connected via bluetooth, and it’s the first time for the American company. Move’s tough, durable exterior will withstand falls, bumps, rain and moisture, dust and dirt, UV and extreme temperatures, Sonos says, and features a rating of IP56.

“We’re listing to our costumers”, says Sonos. “And they were requesting a speaker to bring outside, where there’s no outlet and maybe you’ll need bluetooth”. And adds: “We’re a sound company, we wanted our first step outside the home to sound absolutely amazing”. Domus had a chance to briefly test the new product at this year’s Ifa, and at a first glance, the sound performance was really good. Move fills a void in Sonos lineup and opens up to new scenarios, and we expect that different sizes (and colors) of the product will come in the future. Sonos Move will be available from September 24 at a suggested price of 399 euros. Sonos also presented the new microphone-less speaker Sonos One SL and Sonos Port, the heir of Sonos Connect.
