Whether in the mountains or in the city, by the sea or in the garden, the selected pools face four very different landscapes: the metropolitan one of Miami, the historic one of Rome, the everyday one of our garden or the mountainous one of South Tyrol. These are not only used for swimming or recreational activities, but are also a tool for contemplating and transforming the environment where they are, with which they interact formally and through the materials.
Nestled in the urban skyline of Bricknell, Miami, a succession of five pools creates a strip of water on the ninth floor of one of the most luxurious hotels in the financial district. The facility is located on the longest side of the 55-storey, 124-room, 450-apartment hotel complex, which has been furnished by Philippe Starck. The pools have a total length of about 70 meters and are equipped with an underwater lighting system that makes them an attractive night setting in tune with the glow of Miami nightlife.
A glass wall allows you to admire while in the water one of the most beautiful urban landscapes in the world: Rome. Piscine Castiglione’s project rests majestically on the roof of a historic building and from the seventh floor looks out over the entire city. Covered entirely in travertine, the pool is a contemporary monument to the well-being and “the great beauty” of the capital. Despite the classical aesthetics, the pool is equipped with the most up-to-date technologies: the filtration system and all the accessories can be controlled remotely thanks to an app designed by the same company.
The cantilevered swimming pool is undoubtedly the most iconic element of the hotel that Noa - Network of Architecture has renovated in Val Pustera, in South Tyrol. The project was awarded at the XI edition of the Gran Prix Casalgrande Padana in the category “public building and services”.
The 25-metre long pool is entirely covered with porcelain stoneware slabs and supported by metal struts covered with larch wood. From the outside, the pool looks like a rock supported by tree trunks, perfectly integrating with the landscape of the Dolomites. The project was conceived as a panoramic terrace, which allows the observation of the horizon and, thanks to a window on the bottom, also under the pool.

The first is characterised by the elegant covering of hand-woven fibres, which makes it the furniture around which to redesign your outdoor spaces; the second has a lively and colourful design and shows its metal structure that can be disassembled and assembled with immediacy.
