22,621 historic centres

The exhibition at the Triennale di Milano curated by Benno Albrecht and Anna Magrin, pays tribute to the work of Italian architect, city planner and historian Leonardo Benevolo.

The Triennale di Milano presents an exhibition dedicated to the work of Leonardo Benevolo. The preservation of historic centres has been the subject of intense discussion in Italy, involving theorists, technicians, and representatives of civil society. The debate has given rise to an unprecedented urban project, which has acknowledged the need for cultural, territorial and social harmony in order to ensure preservation.

The historic city project is the most important contribution made by Italy to international research in the field of architecture and town planning. It has become a theoretical and practical model that has spread around the world and that has been adopted by international institutions. This exhibition pays tribute to the work of Leonardo Benevolo, the leading light behind the creation of this project. The show brings up to date the content of the “Esportare il Centro Storico” exhibition, which illustrated how the physical protection of historic centres has developed and how it will be continued in future.
