Raumlaborberlin organized an experimental building workshop together with LiFE cultural center, within the former submarine base of St. Nazaire to rethink the future of the city.

Neocodomousse is Raumlabor’s largest exhibition this year, curated by Sophie Legrandjaque: an experimental building workshop in the former submarine base of St.Nazaire, France, an industrial harbor town at the mouth of the Loire.

The place lives of the production of the largest passenger ships on earth, aeroplanes and fuel. Fuel is at its end and aeroplanes and cruiseships are among the greatest killers of our climate. Based on these three foundations the city is obviously an economic center of an ending era. What are the possible futures for such a place? Raumlabors proposal for St.Nazaire is to get a foot in the door of a new emerging market. The production of collective space from industrial waste turns into structures in scale 1:1 of collective housing.

As part of the exhibition, LiFE and Le Grand Café, Contemporary Art Centre offer a program on the occasion of the European Heritage Days on 17–18 September. There will be a lecture by art and architecture historian Aurélien Vernant, entitled “Archiecture as a way of LiFE” on Sunday, September 18th, some art workshops for families and “Le Radôme, roof of the Submarine Base”, an extension of the exhibition on Saturday 17th.
