Designed by the Implementing Expert Group (IEG), Nepal’s pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 is reminiscent of the mandala, a circular symbol formed by geometric shapes, that represents the circle of life.

Retaining the typical architectural forms and involving local woodworkers, the Nepalese pavilion at Expo speaks about the close relationship of this country with the mountains.

Visitors will feel as if they have stepped into an ancient settlement in the valleys of Kathmandu, where people of different ethnicities, religions, and social backgrounds have lived in harmony for centuries, and will be immersed in a world of vivid colors.
The Nepalese houses have long been decorated with metal, stone, and terracotta, as well as inlaid wood, skills that have been honed through centuries of experience by the artisans who competed among themselves to be the best. The Implementing Expert Group (IEG) trained teams of carpenters, masons, craftsmen and artists to replicate the many elements of these beautiful traditional Nepalese houses.
