A talking stool

Xia is a a “living” sit, a speaking stool that produces the note “A” when it is used. It is in ash wood and burel textile.

The sound emitted is the note “la”, in this way the stool comes to life and becomes “speaking”. Its user is therefore aware of the materiality of the object, as if it were a living being. The sound element in this bench is an old metallic lamiré, which emits the note “la” used to tune instruments into philharmonic bands. This bellows shape refers not only to the choreography performed by the user by the act of sitting down, but also to its close association with different sound objects such as the concertina of plastic hammers used in the traditional festivals of São João a Porto.
